Big numbers in short animations

Welcome to the Budget 2018, where the Treasury’s social media animations appear as soon as the Budget is announced in full. What goes on before those animations drop? Internal negotiations and modelling of top-secret figures, iterations of scripts revised by half a dozen different teams, some strict rules around the way policies are days of illustrating and storyboarding and then finally a few more days (weekends) actually animating. All as close as possible to the release date.

Our second year producing these animations meant we were ready with a workflow that could fit the Treasury’s requirements and schedule. This was the result of that whirlwind.
