Hidden Homeless Ally

Mission Australia is a national Christian charity helping Australians experiencing homelessness through crisis and prevention services. They provide social and affordable housing as well as a range of other services, to help those suffering get back on their feet, and move towards independence. It’s an incredible purpose that everyone at Chello is proud to support.

Your actions are powerful

The aim of this campaign was to educate and spark action, triggering more people to become Hidden Homeless Allies, raising regular donations that help Mission Australia provide immediate relief, long-term change, ongoing support and a better way forward for struggling families across Australia.

Together with Marlin Communications and Mission Australia, we produced two documentary-style case studies and a suite of photography to uncover the reality of hidden homelessness.

We needed to deliver an honest depiction of the struggle, bringing to life Marlin’s script, with the shoot directed by Marlin’s Creative Director, Clayton Thomas. And our very own Shea Bennett taking on filming, and editing duties. The result, some incredibly powerful imagery steeped in feeling.

An outcome with feeling

The stories focused on two families — a mother and daughter living in their car after escaping domestic violence, and a single father diagnosed with cancer while raising his son. Each story highlights Mission Australia’s work to reduce homelessness and encourages people to become a Hidden Homeless Ally.
The imagery really captures the seriousness of the subject matter and the deep feeling at the heart of the issue, delivering on the meaning of Mission Australia’s work, and what it provides for homeless Australians every day.
